Graal – Sigullum Naturae

graal
Sigullum Naturae  is an album by Graal that was released on Moon Records in 1998. This album is progressive psychedelic black / death metal.

This album is really amazing and is an extremely unique black metal album. The album has an immense amount of technical skill. Guitars that are a mix of black metal, death metal, and psychedelic rock. Awesome and heavy use of bass guitar that sounds awesome and really helps push the unique sound. And dope drums that switch between very non-metal rhythms to jazz to metal. The composition of the tracks is really awesome. They’re progressive and the music really doesn’t sound that much like metal at times. The medlodies go allover the place, death metal, black metal, psyche rock, experimental, and really fun happy sounding stuff. The vocals are mostly lazy sounding and range in a few different styles black metal vocals and clean slow singing, and sound really dope. This album is really awesome and is really an experience.

As much as I hate pirating, the label KITSCH MAGIK has illegally re-released it as part of their “Copyright Infringement/ Bootleg” series, so you can listen to it and download for free there

БОГized – Второе Пришествие Богized

second1

Второе Пришествие Богized is an EP by БОГized that was released in 2011 on the label Popsakal, but according to the label it was made is 2004. They are known for their very lofi experimental acoustic rock stuff. This album is a bit different than what they usually put out because it isn’t as acoustic guitar heavy, other aspects are different too. I picked this album because one of the songs on it is my favorite by them.

This release is a mix of experimental, grindcore, raw black metal, noise, and acoustic rock. The EP is lofi and a buzzing is present in lots of the music. The compositions go allover the place and range from really calm to noisy distorted guitar riffs that a mix of black metal and grindcore. Sticking to their roots there are acoustic guitar parts scattered throughout the release. My favorite track on this is, Святые Мощи Серафима Саровского, the third track. Its also my favorite track by them. It sounds very much like something an experimental ambient/new wave Japanese band would put out in the 80s. The song starts with a very circus sounding melody which sounds happy and childish. Its accompanied by singing that mutates into black metal vocals. It then starts going into other genres and its really awesome.

Floral Of Forever – Ad Infinitum

12963439_872977409498297_1539671628045154738_n
Ad Infinitum is an EP by Floral Of Forever that was released on an unknown label in 1996. The genres for this are dungeon synth and black metal.

The dungeon synth is very good with very pretty melodies that make me imagine being in the album art, traveling in the night by the guide of the moonlight through a dark forest by a lake. There’s a part which sounds very medieval-y and I could imagine that being you coming up to some little sales cart, partially lit by a single lantern. The music starts gaining percussion as it shifts into black metal. The metal on this is very unique, it uses a cross between dungeon synth and black metal melodies and no guitar or bass, only synth for the melody. This gives the album a very unique sound. The album is mostly instrumental but there are some vocals in the second half.

Bakbakwalanooksiwae / Famine – Split-Demo 2007

12308483_10153208990257483_2788977909795178918_n
Split-Demo 2007 is a split between Bakbakwalanooksiwae and Famine that was released on Presenile Dementia Records in, you guessed it, 2007. This album is lo-fi black noise (a mix of black metal and noise) and raw black metal.

Bakbakwalanooksiwae is the black noise side of this. Lo-fi noise accompanied by black metal vocals, various samples being ran through effects, and some percussion too. I suspect that at least some of the noise is done with very down tuned guitars. This side sounds much more like noise than it does black metal, and its awesome.

The Famine side is raw black metal. The raw meaning its not clean cut, low recording quality and a more gritty sound than high production black metal. The vocals sound like they’re being ran through reverb which creates an interesting sound. This side is also great and it takes up the majority of the album.

Susvourtre – Demo 1996

Demo 1996 is a demo by Susvourtre that was self-released in as the name suggests, 1996. This album is experimental raw black metal. The members were part of Les Légions Noires, a group of French black metal / black ambient musicians and bands. This band also apparently supports pedophilia, which makes it even more interesting

What made me put the experimental tag is that this band has zero guitar. Instead they use bass, this creates a very unique and awesome sound. The vocals are mostly screamed and miscellaneous unintelligible vocals that only sometimes have a pattern to them. The band is French so I wouldn’t be able to understand the lyrics anyways but it really doesn’t sound like anything resembling words. This is a very creative release and I love it.
