An Autumn For Crippled Children – Eternal

Eternal is an album by An Autumn For Crippled Children that was self-released in 2016. This album is post-black metal.

This is such an awesome post-black metal album. The guitars sound awesome and extremely fuzzed out and have a heavy shoegaze vibe to them. The guitar melodies are a mix of mostly post-rock and shoegaze. Because its post-black metal this album has a much different vibe and sound than other black metal genres. Sometimes it sounds happy and uplifting, yet also tinged with melancholy. There’s also tracks and moments which have a darker or sadder feel to them. There’s really nice bass work too that shows clearly through the fuzzed out guitars. The vocals are really awesome too and sound great with the fuzzed out guitars, creating a really nice atmosphere.

Sun Devoured Earth – I Wish I Would Never Wake Up

I Wish I Would Never Wake Up is an EP by Sun Devoured Earth self-released in 2011. Sun Devoured Earth is a one-man-band from Latvia and he makes post-black metal, shoegaze/blackgaze, atmospheric-black metal, and post-rock, always with a depression theme.

As with all his stuff this release sounds very melancholic. The melodies are really awesome in this and sound sad. The vocals are in two different styles on this EP. This first style are in a very “depressing” style, they sound like someone with no hope singing. I really like vocals where the vocalist sounds depressed and his vocals are awesome. The other vocals are black metal and screamo type vocals which help deliver the black metal aspect of this release. Songs vary from slower more shoegaze stuff to fast black metal type stuff. It all still carries the melancholic melodies and stays post-black metal. This is my favorite release by him~!

Nameless Coyote – Devoured by the Swirling Night

Nameless Coyote is a one man post-black metal band from California. Devoured by the Swirling Night is an EP that was self-released in 2011.

For those unfamiliar with post-black metal it’s basically a beautiful mix of black metal, post-rock, and shoegaze. Nameless Coyote is a unique band since he has a more uplifting and post-rock sound compared to other people in the scene. The songs switch between high-tempo drumming with black metal vocals to calmer and slower post rock moments, often fusing together into something beautiful. Something aggressive and something docile at the same time. Nameless Coyote’s melodies are both beautiful and dreamy. The first and third track on this three track release have black metal vocals. The second track has more “normal” vocals. The vocals usually “behind” the guitars and drums adding to the dreamy factor.
